Enugu Community Seeks Devt at Maiden National Conference

The people of Agunese Mmaku, a community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State have resolved to find lasting solutions to the social and economic challenges that have held the community down over the years.

This was part of resolutions reached at the maiden national conference organised by sons and daughters of the community with the theme: “Governance and Policy, Shaping the Future of Agunese Community.”

Speaking during the conference which held in Enugu, the President General of Agunese Mmaku Development Union, (AMDU) Simeon Okike, said that it provides the people with an opportunity to evaluate the past and chat the way for the future and development of the community.

“This conference aims to bring all shades of options through the 6 villages, 7 branches with experienced professionals and academics and reach common grounds on the issues as soon as possible,” he said.

Speaking further, he said: “Gatherings such as this is where we can address issues like the state of our roads, education and security and how much of a challenge they pose to our people,” Okike said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Enih, stressed the need for young people in the community to acquire education and necessary skills that will enable them to stand the test of time.

Enih, who was represented by a Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Patrick Ochie said that education “is a lifeline for development especially in the modern age,” adding that the government will play its part by way of scholarships, endowment funds and adequate provision in the budget to ensure that young people get the right education.
