Operatives of the Kwara state command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) have arrested seven suspected persons for  the alleged theft and vandalism of electrical cables in the state.

Parading the affected suspects in Ilorin yesterday, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Umar Mohammed, said that the suspects were arrested  after their involvement in the stealing of  electrical cables at Jalala Quarters of University of Ilorin (Unilorin).

He said:  “The suspects were caught with vandalised electrical cables and were  arrested by the security patrol. The suspect led the patrol to the scrab dealers spot at Oke Odo area where the other five suspects were apprehended”.

Umar decried the rate at which the government facilities are being vandalized, adding that such situation is alarming and disturbing.

He said almost all our cities and towns, public facilities, which are provided by government are being vandalised by unscrupulous people as soon they have been installed.

He emphasised that these facilities are provided with the money received  through tax and their vandalism is very serious for the economic development of the country.

He appealed to the public not to see the government properties or facilities as nobody’s properties rather they should see it as theirs and protect them.

He, however,  said that the government has committed  a lot of money to replacing these vandalised facilities, noting that,  where government fails to replace them, many people suffer for the action of these few elements in the society.
