Hyzah Releases Debut EP

Ferdinand Ekechukwu

Emerging  Afrobeats artiste, Hyzah, has released his anticipated debut EP titled ‘To The World’. With contributions from producers Ogkn’Steaks, LeriQ [Burna Boy Wiz Kid] and Black Culture. The EP is available to stream/purchase.

Hyzah’s EP ‘To The World’ is an ode to his African culture, allowing us to delve into his emotions with his undeniable afro melodies paired alongside his distinct and silky vocals. The soulful but unmistakably African project takes on a journey of free expression, love, admiration, and praise for the African woman. With his evocative storytelling and supreme sonics, the EP showcases the very best of Hyzah’s talents.

‘To The World’ consists of 6 tracks, including ‘This And That’ featuring Victony, who first burst onto the scene in 2017 with a flurry of singles, leading to his 2022-2023 smash ‘Soweto’ which garnered over 150 million streams. Victony has performed a number of shows in the UK and US and is also the recent recipient of the ‘Best Recording Of The Year’ and ‘The Viewer’s Choice’ award at this year’s  Nigerian Headies, which also saw wins for the likes of Asake and Burna Boy.

Speaking on the project Hyzah explains: “I feel so excited about this EP, and it a big blessing for me to have Victony on the single ‘This and That’. I’ve been waiting for this moment for over 2 years and the feelings is just different. I can’t wait to share this project with my friends, family and my die-hard fans.”

‘Skinny Love’ was the first single lifted from ‘To The World’ and was a afro infused RnB track that showcased Hyzah’s vocal ability and crossover appeal. Steadily creating his footprint within the Nigerian music scene, Hyzah is greatly inspired by Apala (Yoruba music that originated in the late 1930’s), Trapsoul and early 90’s Afrobeats which is evident throughout the project.

Born and raised in inner city Lagos, Hyzah is heavily influenced by the bright lights and dynamic energy that reflects the pulse of Lagos life. Growing up he was faced with difficult prospects for education so resorted to a brief stint working as a cobbler to support his passion and journey in music.

The 22-year-old first received global attention when a gritty freestyle video, performed in the streets of Lagos lead to write ups in Complex US & HipHop DX, catching the eye of rap superstar Drake who gave him a follow-on Instagram, 6 months after going viral with a remix of the original Lagos freestyle. Last year saw Hyzah receive a co-sign from Burna Boy, further highlighting the raw talent of Hyzah.

Hyzah has received much support both in the UK and Nigeria with radio plays from UK DJ’s DJ Neptizzle (Rinse FM), AfroB (Capital Xtra), Gracey Mae & Rod Rants (Westside Radio) and Fiifii (Soho Radio) and Radio plays and interview from Nigeria’s Beat FM, Cool FM, Soundcity FM, Max FM including spins from African DJs including DJ Bellami, DJ Scoophy, DJ Chucky, and DJ Shawn playing ‘Ibadi’ and including his much talked about performance at Chopilos.
