Tech4Dev Partners ADM-Cares to Train 181  Computer Science Teachers in Lagos, Ogun , Oyo States

Technology for Social Change and Development Initiative (Tech4Dev) and ADM Cares, the social responsibility arm of Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), has empowered and upskilled 181 computer science teachers in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states.

The 181 trained computer science teachers will serve as catalysts for passing on their newly acquired knowledge and skills to approximately 2,000 to 5,000 students within secondary schools in the respective states. This transfer of knowledge is expected to significantly enhance the digital capabilities of young learners in the states, especially their ability to utilise productivity tools and confidently take computer-based exams.

Tech4Dev believes that training teachers on how to use new and innovative teaching methods would ensure that students are learning in a way that is most effective for them.

The teachers were trained in modern techniques of delivering knowledge to students.

The teachers were also taught how to work with computers, communicate and participate safely online, ethical use of Artificial Intelligence and search engines as well as creating effective digital content and collaboration.

The breakdown of participants by state included 110 teachers from six education districts in Lagos, 39 teachers from 35 secondary schools in Oyo State, and 32 teachers from 21 schools in Ogun State.

Project manager Omolade Oladipo believes that by upskilling teachers and providing them with relevant teaching techniques, it will be easier for them to effectively transfer knowledge to their students.”

“We are thrilled to be partnering with ADM Cares on this important project to empower and upskill computer science teachers in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. By providing these teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to teach their students about digital literacy and computer science, we can help to close the digital divide and ensure that all young people in Nigeria have the opportunity to succeed in the 21st century.

“We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn about digital literacy and computer science, regardless of their background or circumstances. This project is a step towards making that a reality for young people in underserved communities in Nigeria.”

One of the participating teachers, Akerekan Adeyemi, from Senior Comprehensive College, Ifako-Ijaye says he feels better equipped to impact knowledge to his students after going through the program.

“This program has been an eye-opener for me. I have learned new ways to teach my students and how to incorporate the use of Artificial Intelligence in the teaching process. I feel I am better equipped to transfer knowledge to my students after this program.”
