Johnel NG Releases Captivating EP “Happy Story, Sad Reality”

Johnel is inching towards the powerhouse he is capable of becoming. Since his debut in 2021, the rising star has been moulding his reality with powerful, soulful vocals and an unshakeable confidence. His short but sparse discography is littered with diary-like ruminations of becoming, soulful, love, and sticking it to the music.

On his far out project, ‘Happy Story, Sad Reality,’ dropping on Friday, November 10, 2023, he sets out to fill the contours of an ascendant star. The 5 track EP, which is recorded, produced and performed solo is a masterclass in knowing oneself and operating with a sure-fire assurance. The new project which features his pre-released single, “Outcast,” a fine showcase of Johnel as an artist creating solely on his own terms. Across eclectic productions, he shares his innermost feelings with relatable lyrics about his determination and God’s plan in his life. “Is it real or is it fiction? A doubting Thomas needs a revelation” goes a couplet on this five-track EP.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the Extended Play, Johnel said, “Happy Story, Sad Reality is a bridge between stories and reality, it’s an open up of what I have experienced and it is really inspiring and motivating to the listeners.” He also noted that it is his third EP for the year 2023.

Born and raised in the western state of Lagos in Nigeria, Johnel NG is a multi-genre artist and producer from Nigeria. He is heavily inspired by emotional moments and musical influences with mostly soul and pop elements. His sonorous voice easily earmarked him as a force to reckon with within the annals of African music.
