Mmekidmfon Umanah Wins 2023 Future Awards Prize for Health and Wellness
The 17th edition of The Future Awards Africa has brought to the forefront an exceptional young African, Mmekidmfon Umanah, who has been recognized as the winner of the prestigious Future Awards Prize for Health and Wellness in 2023.
Forbes has described the awards as the “Most important awards for outstanding young Africans,” and the accolade celebrates young individuals between the ages of 18 and 31 who have achieved incredible success in various fields over the past year.
Themed “Defying Odds, Celebrating Greatness,” the 2023 edition of the Future Awards Africa celebrated those who have chosen to defy the status quo and redefine norms in their respective fields within the past year.
Among these amazing individuals is Mmekidmfon Umanah, a Business Executive with over 7 years of Management and Leadership experience in the Health, Tech, and Nonprofit sectors.
Mmekidmfon Umanah is the current leader of Aimcare Health, a Healthtech Startup with a groundbreaking mission to disrupt the West African pharmaceutical sector. His innovative approach focuses on efficient distribution, pioneering financing models, and cutting-edge inventory management solutions. Aimcare’s work in the healthcare space has garnered significant attention and acclaim, recently earning it a place among the top 29 Healthcare innovators in Africa. This recognition comes with grant support from major players in the global health sector, including Bill and Melinda Gates, Microsoft, MSD, Cencora, and Chemonics.
Not only has Mmekidmfon Umanah excelled in the healthtech sector, but he has also served as a Country Director for DOT Glasses in Nigeria. In this role, he managed the company’s significant business portfolio in Nigeria, implemented effective marketing strategies, and successfully built the brand image of the world’s most innovative and affordable prescription eyeglasses company.
Mmekidmfon’s achievements are not limited to his professional career; he’s a passionate academic and Researcher as well. Currently pursuing a PhD in Management & Strategy at King’s College London, he was 1 of only 3 Africans awarded a full scholarship in 2021. His research focuses on leveraging digital technologies to strike a balance between profit and purpose in social ventures within the African context. This academic rigour, combined with his practical expertise, makes him a dynamic force in the field of healthcare and social innovation.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Mmekidmfon Umanah holds an MSc (with Distinction) in International Development from the School of Government at the University of Birmingham. He attended this esteemed institution via the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, the UK’s most renowned scholarship for future leaders.
