A coalition under the aegis of Rivers State Liberation Coalition of NGOs has assured the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, of their full support on the road to freedom from alleged negative influence in the governance of the state.

The group, which is comprised of Ogoni Development Drive, Ijaw Wari Worldwide, Rivers Projects, RG 23 Movement, Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership and others, said that Rivers people have decided to stand by Governor Fubara and would stop at nothing to protect the sanctity of the state.

They condemned the recent actions of the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who purportedly commenced impeachment process against the governor.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Solomon Lenu, Convener of Ogoni Development Drive (ODD), said: “We cannot fold our hands and watch our dear governor continue to die in silence and shame. Hence, we have decided to rise up to help our governor to have a breath of fresh air, having been surrounded by almost all officials of the immediate past administration who are there to monitor and give vital and classified state information to their pay master who think he can pocket Rivers State.

The coalition condemned “the unprofessional actions of the police who aided some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to sit outside the chambers despite the security situation and the direct attack on the executive governor of Rivers State.”

They wondered what governor Fubara has committed to warrant impeachment within his five months in office and vowed never to allow any group to remove him illegally.

The coalition pleaded with Fubara to rise up to fully take charge of the state powers that has been vested in him by Rivers people, and should exercise same as the executive governor of Rivers Stale without fear or favour.

They also called on “President Bola Tinubu to call his Minister, Nyesom Wike to order,” especially on the alleged “use of security agencies to cause unrest in Rivers State.”

They added that “we will resist anyone, including Nyesom Wike to illegally remove Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers State because Rivers State is not his personal estate.”

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Eze, has warned Governor Fubara not to entertain the thought of retreating, stressing that such act of cowardice would mean detaching from God and the people and aligning with enemies of the state to further frustrate the masses.

Eze, in a statement during the weekend, described as childish “the accusation by Wike that his reasons for falling out with Governor Fubara was that the governor was hobnobbing with some of his political enemies after getting into office; as if those his enemies are not from Rivers State.”

He said that “the ongoing conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, is a divine orchestration in response to the wailing of the people of the state over the tormenting highhandedness and annexation of the state and her resources by the ex-governor.”

It would recalled that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had on Sunday morning in a statement he signed by himself, apologised to Rivers’ people for the recent political crisis in the state, which crippled business activities within the period.

The governor also stated that peace is priceless and for the purpose of development of the state and happiness of the people, he would allow peace to reign, not minding the sacrifices he had to make for that.
