Imo Guber: Anyanwu Promises Reinstatement of Sacked 10,000 Workers

Barely few days to the November 11, 2023, governorship election in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has called on Imolites in the diaspora to support what he termed the enthronement of a new administration that would better the lots of the people.
As a means of lowering the unemployment rate, the guber candidate promised to reinstate the 10,000 workers sacked in the state during the administration of Rochas Okorocha.
Anyanwu, said these when he met with members of Ikoku Spare Parts Dealers Association and other influencers in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, at the weekend.
He said his government would be accommodating to both residents and non-residents in the state.
Anyanwu, also promised to grant amnesty to restive youths of the state to bring peace in his administration.
“I am here to consult Imolites who live and work in Rivers State, who have their permanent voter’s cards back home, who also are influencers even though they don’t vote at home.
“Our government will be very accommodating as we would take cognisance of our diaspora brothers and sisters and not only those in overseas, but also those in other states to ask them to come back home that a new government is coming, not asking them to loose their business here but to bring their branches back home.”
He added: “There is no community that you don’t have bad ones but you don’t jettison them, just like when you have a son or daughter and based on peer group pressure they start to misbehave, you don’t start by killing that child or making them more hardened but by talking with them you change their orientation.
“We must encourage human capital development; we must encourage the middle class. The unemployment rate today in Imo State stands at 57 per cent, which is the highest. So, if I become the governor, I will work with the Ministry and Head of Service to get the data of those who are still alive and those who have left and if they are not up to that number we will make it up because that salary they were earning is still there so we have to reinstate them and that will reduce unemployment in the State.”
The governorship hopeful further promised to declare state of emergency on education and healthcare in the state.
Responding, Chairman of Ikoku Spare Parts Dealers Association, Mr. Festus Onyewe, assured Anyanwu that the association would mobilise Imolites in the market to go home and vote in the election.
