As the countdown to the off-cycle elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states on November 11th, 2023, the Uyi and Rachel Lawani (URL) Foundation has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fulfill its duties with unwavering patriotism and a commitment to impartiality.
The foundation in a press statement signed by the Co-Convener Dr. Uyi Lawani, said these upcoming elections hold immense significance as they will determine the leadership of these states for the next four years, a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
The URL Foundation emphasizes the critical role that INEC plays in ensuring a free and fair electoral process, echoing the need for impartiality and strict adherence to established rules and regulations.
The foundation also extends its appeal to security agencies tasked with maintaining law and order, urging them to be vigilant, diligent, and unwaveringly conscientious. It is imperative that the elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states proceed peacefully, with neutrality and professionalism demonstrated by all personnel involved.
The statement read, “ URL Foundation encourages contestants, political parties, and their supporters to prioritize non-violence during this political contest.”
They remind all parties that elections are not a zero-sum game and underscore the importance of magnanimity in victory and circumspection in defeat.
