There are strong indications that Leicester City’s quest for promotion back to the Premiership is now threatened, following reports that top elite clubs are aiming to snap the duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho in the coming January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk.com, the former Premiership champions are battling to keep the two Nigerian players who are likely to be in the final team list of Super Eagles to the AFCON 2023 next January in Cote d’Ivoire.

According to the report, Tottenham Hotspurs and Newcastle United are targeting the signature of Super Eagles’ Stand-in Captain, Ndidi and while Crystal Palace and West Ham United want Iheanacho in  the January window.

Both players will be out of contract at the end of the season, which means they run the risk of losing them on free transfers next summer.

With these clubs on their trail, Leicester could be forced into letting them go if they cannot tie them down to fresh terms before January.

Leicester have enjoyed an excellent start to life in the second-tier league. They have won 13 of their 15 Championship matches so far, losing two, and currently sit four points clear at the top of the table.

Ndidi has been key to Leicester’s early success and is undoubtedly one of their best players. The centre-midfielder has made 15 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring three goals and making four assists.

As for Iheanacho, he has featured 17 times for the Foxes this season, netting six times and making two assists.
