Ahead the governorship election in Bayelsa State on Saturday, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola and Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Hon. Abiodun Olasupo, yesterday, urged the Yoruba community in the state to continue to support Governor Duoye Diri.

Similarly, a group under the auspices of Grassroots Engagement by Concerned Bayelsans for Good Governance, has canvassed support for  Diri and his Deputy, Sen. Lawrence Eghrudjakpor’s re-election.

Olasupo in a media statement made available  in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said the present administration in Bayelsa State, has made positive changes through its human development programs, policies and activities, which have shown in social infrastructural, healthcare development, youth-based focus programs, women empowerment, among others that have put the state ahead of its peers in Nigeria.

He then called on the Yorubas living in the state to cast their votes for Diri so as to consolidate on the developmental strides of his administration.

According to him, “It is not a thing of just mouthing, but very clear to all eyes that Governor Duoye Diri has done more than enough for the growth of Bayelsa State to warrant giving him the opportunity to serve again.

“Go around the State and see developmental projects that are positively impactful on the entire Bayelsans, talk of road networks, effective education programs and policies, good healthcare and enabling environment for commercial growth for the people and communities in the state.

“Governor Diri will not relent, he will do it again and I am very sure that Yorubas in Bayelsa that have witnessed and enjoyed the good work of the governor will rally round and support him for a successful second term victory.”

Olasupo and Diri were both members of the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019 and the governor was the architect of the former becoming a member of the PDP ahead of the last general election.

Meanwhile,  in realisation of Diri/Eghrudjakpor’s re-election,  the group has scaled up its door-to-door campaign tagged, ”Grassroot Movement For The Re-election of DIRI/LAW” yesterday with massive turnout of electorate.

Addressing the supporters during the campaign, Coordinator Bayelsa Central, Abel Ebifemowei, Bayelsa East, Hon. Ebi Ben Okolo of the Grassroot Movement for Re-election of Douye Diri respectively, said the PDP has consistently delivered on its campaign promises and has the experience and knowledge required to lead Bayelsa into a brighter future.

They stressed that voting Diri/Law will mean  sure ticket for better living while Bayelsa West coordinator, Hon. Alex Jenakumo and Deputy Coordinator of Grassroots Movement, Hon. Charity Kens Godwin appealed to the electorate to make their promises good by coming out enmass on Saturday to cast their votes for the re-election of Diri/Law to reenact the mandate of the governor for a second tenure.

Local governments, wards and units representatives, present at the campaign ground, assured that going by the popularity of the PDP at the moment, Duoye Diri re-election bid should be considered as a mission accomplished.

The electorate openly vowed to vote enmass for the reelection of Diri/Law to continue their people oriented government with its massive development to the people and the State.

They stressed that Diri/Law is the only option that can genuinely guarantee continuity of prosperity for all Bayelsans.

The electorate said Bayelsa State has never had it so good until Douye Diri whom they christened the miracle governor came on board with unquantifiable goodwill for the people of the State.

The teeming supporters affirmed that Governor Douye Diri has proven his mettle as Godsend to stand in the gap for the People of Bayelsa in this era like Moses did for the Israelites when they departed Egypt for the Promised land.

The people who emphasised the need to continue the Diri/Law re-election maintained that Bayelsa is already agog with so much done already to highlight the successful achievements of the Diri-led PDP Government which has brought so much joy to the masses.

Women leaders of various group and a good number of youth organisations in their separate comments concurred that Diri is the man with the Midas touch ordained by God to lead Bayelsa in this dispensation, hence everything is working in his favour.
