LP Calls for Cancellation of Imo Guber Election

As the results of the Imo governorship election are being collated, Senator Athan Achonu, governorship candidate of the Labour Party has called for a total cancellation of the polls, alleging that there was no election, but a siege on Imo people orchestrated by the governor and candidate of the APC, Senator Hope Uzodimma, aided by security agencies.

Addressing newsmen, the LP deputy governorship candidate, Hon Tony Nwulu, said: “We want a total cancellation of the election.  There was no election in Imo State, but a siege on Imo people with the connivance of security agencies.

“From our monitoring, we witnessed active cooperation of the security agencies providing cover to people perpetrating the electoral malpractice. We witnessed it all today: ballot snatching, vote buying, the BVAs failed to work, we foresaw all that was going to happen today and we warned INEC.

“After Imolities rejected their money, they resorted to violence, one of our LG chairmen who was shot is lying now in critical condition, there was  outright diversion of INEC materials to private homes “

Nwulu lamented that it was disappointing that after the security agencies assured Imo people that there will be credible, free and fair elections, and stormed the State with heavy presence of Policemen, they were only procured to aid election manipulation.

“INEC is a sham. After all the promises, it’s the same security agencies that were used to rig the election. This is not what Imo people bargained for. This is not an election, we demand total cancellation”, he said
