The federal government has unveiled plans to establish technology incubation centres in the six geo-political zones.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, announced the development at the Southwest Zonal National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) expo opening.

The event was titled, “Elevating Nigeria’s Research and Output through Technology Incubation Programme”.

Represented by Professor Nnayelugo Ike-Muonso, Nnaji unveiled plans underway by the FG to add to the existing 36 incubation centres in the country.

He said: “I stand here today to convey the government’s promise of continued support, increased investment, and the creation of a conducive ecosystem for research and development.

“Together, we will elevate Nigeria’s R&D outputs, unlock new opportunities, and position our nation as a hub of innovation and technological excellence.”

While confirming there are 36 incubators in the 36 states, the minister noted their aim to open more incubators with time.

“As part of this administration’s drive to provide a befitting environment for SMEs, Mr President recently approved N50bn for the small business at a single-digit interest rate, which is novel,” he emphasised.

The Director General of the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Dr. Patricia Chukwu, said establishing more facilities nationwide would promote the nation’s entrepreneurs.

She assured the nation that the agency would collaborate with state governments to create jobs and grow the economy.

On her part, the South-West Zonal Director of NBTI, Dr Julie Momah, said the expo was a platform to show brilliance, creative thinking and innovative solutions.
