In New Book, Egwim Champions Economic Literacy

Famed economist and author Chinwe Egwim recently unveiled her latest creation—a children’s book designed to champion economic literacy. Aptly titled “Super E: The Inflation Smackdown,” the narrative unfolds the captivating journey of Chichi, Fola, Rukky, Sadiq, and their friends, guided by Super E, a superhero economist adept at simplifying complex economic concepts for children.

The book launch, set in a vibrant atmosphere of excitement and knowledge-sharing, placed a spotlight on the pivotal role economic education plays in shaping the financial futures of the younger generation. Transitioning from an engaging panel discussion where accomplished adults underscored the transformative power of economic literacy.

A key highlight of the event unfolded with the introduction of “Super E,” portrayed by the dynamic teenage keynote speaker, Eniabitobi Akeredolu. This superhero economist serves as a bridge, translating intricate economic ideas into relatable concepts for children. Subsequently, a panel of young minds unravelled their understanding of the “inflation smackdown,” showcasing that economic wisdom knows no age and is readily embraced by the youth.

During a fireside chat, Egwim, who holds the position of Chief Economist at Coronation Merchant Bank, provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process behind the book. The narrative, translated into indigenous languages, takes a unique approach to bridge the gap between young minds and economic concepts, fostering a profound understanding from an early age.

The event was graced by notable figures like
Dr. Omobola Johnson, Catherine Bickersteth, Funke Ladimeji, Olubankole Wellington (Banky W), and Folawe Omikunle. A generous donation was made to the CEO of Teach for Nigeria, a non-profit organization committed to battling educational inequity. This philanthropic gesture aligns seamlessly with the broader impact the book and its launch aim to achieve.
