The Anambra State Police command yesterday vowed to arrest the killers of the Nanka Ward Chairman of Young Progressive Party (YPP), Mr. Joe Mohale.
This is just as the Benue State Police Command confirmed the abduction of the suspended Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Council of Benue State, Hon. Mrs Amina Audu.
Killing of Mohale happened last Saturday after he hosted the party’s House of Representatives candidate, in a yet to be scheduled rerun election, Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife.
He was shot dead shortly after the meeting by men suspected to be political thugs, who addressed him as a saboteur, probably for hosting Nnabuife, when a son of the community, Hon Okwudili Ezenwankwo was also in the same election.
But in a press release by the police command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, said the command would hunt down and bring to justice the killers of Mohale.
The commissioner condemned the killing in strongest possible terms describing the killers as cowards who have murdered sleep.
“The Police is already working on vital clues to unmask the perpetrators. They might think they have committed a perfect crime and that they would get away with it, but they delude themselves.
“The Command wishes to re-assure all law abiding citizens especially in Nanka not to be afraid but to join hands with the Police in bringing the murderers and their sponsor to justice,” the release read.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command yesterday confirmed the abduction of the suspended Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Council of Benue State, Hon. Mrs Amina Audu.
The former Chairman was kidnapped when armed men on Monday morning blocked Tyolaha Ahume portion of Naka-Makurdi Road in Gwer West where they shot at her moving car and forcibly whisked her and the driver away.
The kidnappers overpowered men of the Community Volunteer Guard stationed at the area who on hearing superior gun sounds ran into the bush according to an eyewitness.
The vehicle, which was said to be searched and left behind, was pushed and parked at Ahume Village on the same road.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Sewuese Anene, who confirmed the abduction of Mrs Audu, said investigation was in progress.
“The kidnap of Hon. Amina Audu is confirmed. Investigation is ongoing please,” the PPRO said.
This is the second time in less than two weeks that travellers have been kidnapped at Tyolaha Atume point of the Makurdi-Naka Road.
The deplorable Makurdi-Naka road has become a nightmare for travellers who face persistent attack by armed gunmen who kill, rob or kidnap people on a daily basis.
