Impact Host Communities Positively, Sultan Charges Corps Members

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III,  has charged the 2023 Batch C Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to embark on people-oriented community development projects in order to make a positive impact on the lives of their host communities.

The Sultan stated this in his palace when the corps members paid him a courtesy call for an interaction.

He stressed that the execution of community development projects by the corps members in their service year endears them to the host communities as well as get them reward and commendation.

He said: “You are advised also to respect the religions, cultures, and traditions of your host communities and eschew any immoral attitude that might be harmful to the people you are serving.

“I am assuring you of your security, as I have instructed all my District Heads to take all measures that will safeguard your lives while you are posted to their domains.”

The Sultan further urged them to take advantage of the skills acquisition programme they learnt in the camp to enable them to be self-reliant.

He told the corps members that challenges facing the country are enormous, hence, the need to be agents of positive change by seeking ways to address social and economic issues, promote education, and participate fully in addressing environmental challenges.

According to him, “During your stay in the orientation camp, you have acquired essential skills, knowledge, and values that will equip you for the challenges ahead. As you move to your various places of primary assignment, I encourage you to embrace the attributes of discipline, perseverance and integrity. Remember that you are not just representing yourselves but also the NYSC and the entire country.”

On his part, the Sokoto State Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, informed the Sultan that the corps members have exhibited a high sense of discipline and also received all the designated trainings with passion and seriousness.

Usman used the medium to appreciate the donation of two bulls by the Sultan to augment the feeding of the corps members during the orientation programme.
