The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has commended the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) State2State support for improving citizens’ engagement and participation in budget process.

Aliyu stated this at the 2024 budget consultative meetings with citizens on budget preparation and policies implementation through town hall meeting.

He also pledged his administration’s commitment to the implementation of the USAID, State2State Open Government Partnership’s (OGP) projects in the state through fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency.

Governor Aliyu, who presided over the consultative meeting while receiving inputs from stakeholders, declared that “this platform has become a meeting point that will sustain Sokoto State’s fiscal responsibility.

The governor said: “We shall continue to partner with the governors forum, USAID State2State and other development partners in transparency and accountability, for the benefit of our citizens.”

On his part, Dr. Auwal Ahmed Musa, who spoke on behalf of CSO OGP, appreciated the governor for sustaining the visibility of Sokoto State on the global lists of Open Government Partnership (OGP).

Musa said: “At the level of the CSOs, we are happy that the government is pursuing its 9-point agenda to the letter. It is worthy to note that USAID State2State has impacted massively on health and education in Tambuwal, Wamakko, Gwadabawa, Sokoto North and South local government areas respectively.”
