Taraba Conducts Local Government Elections

Elections into local government councils in Taraba State were held today across the 16 local government areas of the state.
The elections were generally peaceful across the state as there was no incidence of violence or ballot box snatching throughout the process.
Voters arrived the various polling units as early as 8.00am though elections did not commence until about 11.00am as electoral materials did not arrive most of the polling units until about 9.30 am.
In most of the polling units monitored within Jalingo the state capital, voters were seeing waiting patiently for the arrival of the electoral materials.
Some party agents and candidates that spoke with THISDAY expressed optimism that their parties will come out victorious at the end of the exercise.
Speaking with Journalists, the PDP Chairmanship candidate for Jalingo local government, Alhaji Aminu Hassan Jauro, commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) for the processes put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections just as he commended Governor Agbu Kefas for ensuring peaceful conduct of the elections.
According to him “The elections has been generally peaceful and credible. I commend the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a very credible election that almost everybody have commended.
“I must also commend governor Kefas for his commitment to ensuring the elections are conducted. You cannot write the success story of this election without mentioning the role of the governor”
Governor Kefas had upon assumption of office dissolved the caretaker committees put in place in the councils by the previous administration and directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) to take over the administration of the local government councils.
He equally directed TSIEC to commence preparations to conduct elections into the various councils in the state just as he released funds for the exercise.
