CRMI, UNILAG Collaborate to Foster Research, Devt in Risk Management

The Chartered Risk Management Institute (CRMI) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have escalated efforts on strategies that would lead to the development of academic programmes for continuous capacity building in risk management and related disciplines.

This was disclosed during a courtesy visit of top management of the institute led by the President, Prof. Ezekiel Oseni to the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, UNILAG, yesterday in Lagos.

 Oseni stressed the need to harness of the opportunity that comes with in-depth research and knowledge sharing between practice and the gown.

He maintained that the visit would spur greater synergy that would enable the university start academic programmes in risk management, while as a professional body they would leverage the expertise of its members in ensuring balance between academics and practice

According to him, “was nice talking to them , so the take-home for us  that we will be able to work together to better the lot of risk management and add value to all the stakeholders.”

 “This partnership with UNILAG where we can have a diploma programmes in Risk Management, Bsc programme and Msc programme will help us to deepen risk management profession in Nigeria.

“With this it will be easier for issues outside there in the practice that cannot be resolved for us to be able to get the university to conduct necessary research that would add value and the same thing when they have theories that they want to test the collaboration will also help them to test the theory in practice. So both sides will be able to work together for the good of academics and the good of the industry.”

On his side, the Dean UNILAG, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abraham Osinubi, welcomed the move by the institute in taking the lead to partner with them in co- creation of curriculum and teaching of risk management.

He pointed out that it is so vital that it is not only the academics that would co-create the courses and teach the future learners.

He equally noted that it was high time, the professional bodies were integrated into the academic process to the benefit of the Nigerian students.

“We need the professional bodies to come into the academic environment as adjunct lecturers across the universities.  That is why we want push for your recommendation to the Senate and the Vice-chancellor.”

According to him, “The era which we are now is co-creation of curricula , teaching and production of individuals. It has to be in conjunction with experts in the industry, business world and private sector to co-create courses, co-teach, and co-produce for the betterment of the society and the learners themselves.

“This is the way to go in this present world for a future ready whole-society that we are going to create for ourselves.  That is the reason why the meeting is so vital not only  for the society but for the candidates we are producing.”
