SEC Conference: Participants Urged To Shun Ponzi Schemes, Invest with Registered Capital Market operators

Over 400 Participants at the just concluded investor awareness conference organised by the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) have been advised to avoid Ponzi schemes and invest their hard earned money in a more secured platform like the operators in the Capital Market Registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to a statement by the Dr. Akeem Oyewale, Vice Chairperson of the Financial Literacy Technical Committee (FLTC), of SEC, he said that this ongoing initiative is part of strategic move to educate the general public across Nigeria’s geopolitical zone on its mandate and the benefits of investing in the capital markets.

Oyewale mentioned that the event, held at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, as well as streamed online, with the theme, “Investor Education for an Emerging Economy” was apt, as many of the participants were enlightened by all speakers who took turns to discuss relevant topics.

FLTC Chairperson, Mrs. Toyin Sanni, represented by Dr. Akeem Oyewale in his remark, urged the participants to put to good use all the learning points at conference. He also spoke on the impact of Ponzi Scheme and its effect on the economy at large.

The Vice Chancellor University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, gave a welcome remark saying the institution was privileged to host such an educative and insightful event that will have a great impact on society.

Mrs. Sola Adesakin Smart Stewards, who spoke on “How and Why of Investing in the Capital Market,” Dr. Temilola Adeyemi, Senior Researcher Associate, Money, spoke on “How and Why of Investing in the Capital Market.” Ms Ugonnaya Osi, Head Institutional Sales United Capital Asset Management, spoke on Investing in Mutual Fund; How much you should know.

The statement said the conference which had about 400 Students and 50 Lecturers as participants was made possible through the partnership of the KU8 Consortium and sponsored by the Securities and Exchange Commission, FMDQ Group, Marble Capital, Lotus Capital and Arthur Stevens, Utica Capital.
