Meet Kan Did, A Player in the Global Afro Music Movement
In recent years, Afrobeats has moved past the boundaries of West Africa to become a global phenomenon, dominating worldwide. Amidst this, stands Kan Did, who has carved out his niche with a sound that blends Afro rhythms with different genres.
“Afrobeats is more than just music; it’s a cultural movement. It represents the diversity of Africa, and I’m proud to be a part of showcasing that to the world,” Kan Did asserts.
Born Okoye Ifeanyi Isaac in Sokoto State, Nigeria, has rapidly emerged as a standout artist in the Afro music scene. Raised in Benin City, Kan Did excelled academically, earning several diplomas before fully dedicating himself to his true passion; Music.
“My love for music began at a very tender age of 12,” Kan Did shared, reflecting on his early days. “Growing up in Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, I was part of a trio group and spent countless hours in the studio, working to build my sound and craft.”
Kan Did’s music is a rich blend of genres, including Afro-Caribbean, Reggaeton, Afropop, R&B, and Highlife. His innovative approach to Afro rhythms has garnered significant acclaim, earning him the affectionate nickname “Music in human.”
His music is an example of the growth of Afrobeats beyond traditional means. Tracks like “Mama” and “You” resonate not only with African audiences but also with listeners globally.
His album, “Color of Feeling,” to be released on June 14, 2024, has been instrumental in solidifying his reputation as a global Afrobeats ambassador. The vibe ranging from Afro-Caribbean rhythms to R&B-infused melodies, will show Kan Did’s ability to innovate while staying true to his roots.
Kan Did’s approach to songwriting is deeply inspirational. “Music to me is inspirational, and I make music in different ways,” he said. “Sometimes I don’t even need to write. Once I get the inspiration, I create the music.” His songs often carry themes of positivity and empowerment. “I make music that adds value to people, to make them believe that they can achieve greatness as long as they set their mind on it.”
Looking ahead, Kan Did has ambitious goals. “I want to be relevant and to make music that stands the test of time, just like the likes of Bob Marley, Fela, and other great legends,” he shared. His upcoming single, “Testimonies,” featuring King Rapsodi, promises to be another hit.
With his innovative approach and dedication, Kan Did is set to make a lasting impact on the music industry. “I want my music to be something people can dance to while getting a message that would change their life and ideology for the better,” he concluded.
