PDP Governors Express Mixed Feelings over Off-season Polls

*Urge Plateau, Zamfara governors to seek justice at the Supreme Court

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, expressed reservations over the last off-season elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states, and urged the governors of Plateau and Zamfara states to seek redress at the Supreme Court.


Reading the communique of their meeting, the chairman of the PDP governors, Senator Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, expressed confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.


Mohammed said, “The meeting reviewed the recent judgements of the Court of Appeal concerning governors of various states and noted the mixed outcomes. As a forum, we once again re-state our overall confidence in the judiciary to do justice.


“We believe that the Supreme Court will do justice in the cases where we recorded temporary setbacks, like Zamfara and Plateau states.”


Reviewing the off-season elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states, the meeting stated, “We support the decision of INEC to investigate the allegation of existence of pre-filled result sheets even before elections started in some places to ensure the confidence of the people in the electoral process.


“On the national economy, the meeting urgently requested the federal government to prioritise the introduction of a new Revenue Allocation Formula that gives more money to states and local governments to enable them meet their increased responsibilities.”
The governors that attended the meeting were the governors of Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Plateau and Bayelsa states, while the deputy governors of Zamfara, Enugu, Osun represented their principals.
