NeuroRehab Institute recently educated school children on serving as ambassadors to guide their parents, family members, and friends on properly handling medical issues.

This enlightenment programme was held at the Ajumoni Senior Secondary School, Lagos to mark the 2023 Physiotherapist Day of Service.

NeuroRehab, a community of students, interns, and working-class physiotherapists, helped the students with personal development and growth in their physiotherapist profession.

The Founder of NeuroRehab Institute, Muyiwa Adejugbagbe emphasised the significance of getting the students involved.

He added: “We are making them an advocate when it comes to health so they will be able to speak for every child that grows in their family.”

Adejugbagbe also said, “Apart from that, we are very much concerned about their academic endeavors, telling them about their career pathway when it comes to health.

They can be medical lab scientist, physiotherapists, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. So we are letting them know the different career pathways they can get.”

The group taught the students the dangers of wrong sitting posture, a bad bed, their environment, and how these could affect their health.

The group enlightened them on the possible repercussions of patronising unlicensed medical practitioners who may not be able to deliver proper care to their patients.

On her part, the Project Lead for the Lagos project under Neorehab Academia, Modupe Laja, unravelled the team’s plan to visit a market for outreach to promote good health.

She said the group is currently running nine projects for the physiotherapy day of service in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Benin, Anambra, Enugu, Abuja, Kwara, and Kaduna States.

“In these nine states, these projects cut across empowerment programmes for possible disabilities, medical, market, and school outreaches, and programmes for pregnant women. We want to give back to the community,” says the project lead.

According to her, the team will launch its mentorship hub for interested students. “We have persons who are mentors who can guide them to becoming physiotherapists.”
