Chioma Uzodima, Opi Agha, Amal Pepple, Timiyabode Dumbo, Others honoured at ACGMS Awards

The wife of the Imo State Governor, Mrs. Chioma Uzodima was among the women honoured at the Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls School (ACMGS) Elelenwo, Old Girls Association, Abuja Branch Awards night.

The First lady who got the Friends of ACMGS Awards for philanthropy was recognised for her unwavering encouragement and philanthropic support to the ACMGS Abuja Branch.

Receiving the award on her behalf during the ceremony which was held in Abuja on Saturday, the wife of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Lady Adaora Iwanyanwu said the First Lady feels honoured to be recognised by the Association.

Also, the President of When Women Pray International (WWP) Apostle Opi Agha, was honoured for raising Godly and virtuous women to influence their families for God and foster nation-building.

The National President of ACMGS Old Girls Association, Prof. Onyaye Edgar Kunle-Olowu who was honoured for her visionary guidance and exceptional leadership to ACMGS, said the Abuja Branch of the Association has been at the forefront of Philanthropic works and has proven to be a good example of their alma mata.

In her Keynote address, she highlighted that success is not in having so much finances but in how people have impacted their community and the people around them. “Our motto is what we stand by, ‘Fidelis in Minimis’ which means Faithfulness in Little things,” Kunle-Olowu said.

The President of the Abuja Branch of the ACMGS Elelenwo, Old School Association, Mrs Timiyabode Dumbo said the branch is charity-oriented.

“We do a lot of charity work and it gives us so much joy to help people who cannot help themselves. We have visited a home in Abuja called JSK. It is a home for children with cerebral palsy and autism. We gave them food items and some items for their Special needs.’

“We also have a pet project which we call ‘Pad a Girl’ where we do customised pads and panty liners for the students. We reach out to every girl in the school and we provide them with a jumbo pack of the pads which will last them three months. It’s an ongoing project we are doing.” Dumbo said.

While launching the ACMGS Elelenwo, Abuja branch Magazine, Dumbo said it contains the story of the branch from inception in 2021 till date.

She said the Award Night was organised to honour old girls of the school and friends of the association who have worked tirelessly for the success of the branch and members who have achieved greatly in their professions and businesses.

Another dignitary who received the Friends of ACMGS Award is former Head of Service of the Federation, Amal Pepple in recognition for demonstrating continued academic excellence and astounding achievement in public service.

Similarly, the President and Vice President of the Abuja Branch of ACMGS, Mrs Timiyabode Dumbo and Mrs Ruth Davies Ibiamu received the Distinguished Leadership Award in recognition of their visionary guidance and exceptional leadership to the Association.

Other members honoured for their dedication and contributions to the association are the Convener of the Association in Abuja, Dr Chitu Womehoma Princewill, Mrs Nnenda Makeri, Harriet Ebikobowei Okoya, Ledisi Aje and Koko Ngowari Winifred amongst others.

In her vote of thanks, the Vice president of the ACMGS Elelenwo Old Girls Association, Abuja Branch, Mrs Ruth Davies Ibiamu thanked all the members of the Association adding that without them, they would not have achieved the success which the branch has made.

She said the Association is a Sisterhood and urged other schools to form such Associations, reunite and see how they can help their alma mata and also help their communities.
