Fifth CMD Food Tour: NIHOTOUR and CMD Unveil Global Culinary Extravaganza in Abuja

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), in partnership with CMD Tourism and Trade Enterprises, played host to a delectable display of global gastronomy during their fifth CMD food tour held in Abuja on Saturday.
Countries such as Cameroun, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malaysia, Philippines, Burkina Faso, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Egypt, Botswana, Uganda, Ethiopia, and South Africa, alongside Nigeria, showcased indigenous foods and beverages, offering the public an opportunity to savor diverse culinary delights.
Representing the Director General of NIHOTOUR, Dr. Taiwo Famogbiyele, welcomed participants and expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with CMD Tourism.
He stated, “Following the success of the 3rd NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival in June 2023, NIHOTOUR partners with CMD Tourism to host the 5th CMD Food Tour. This collaboration aims to create new opportunities for Nigerian tourism destinations and expand Nigeria’s influence in the global gastronomy tourism industry.”
A press statement issued by The Public Relations Officer of NIHOTOUR, Joesef Karim, quoted the DG NIHOTOUR, Nura Kangiwa, emphasized the institute’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leading gastronomy tourism destination in Africa. He highlighted the role of such partnerships in enhancing sector-specific knowledge and Nigeria’s capacity to host signature food festivals.
The theme for the 2023 Food Tour was “Around the World in a Day,” reflecting the diverse cultural offerings presented at the event.
CEO of CMD Tourism and Trade Enterprises, Ms. Cecile Doumbe, expressed satisfaction with the event, stating, “This 5th edition is a fulfillment of our commitment to Nigerian and international food tourism events hosted in Abuja. CMD Food Tour is driven by Tourism Sustainability, Responsibility, and Inclusiveness for all.”
Ambassador Traiore of Cote D’Ivoire underscored the event’s significance in promoting African gastronomy, emphasizing ties of fraternity and regional tourism development.
They further highlight NIHOTOUR’s role as a Federal Government parastatal empowered to train, certify, and register personnel in Nigeria’s travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors. The institute, with 12 campuses across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, remains committed to advancing the nation’s tourism and hospitality industry.
