APC to PDP Leadership: Be Cautious in Your Utterances
Igbawase Ukumba in Lafia
The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday asked leadership of the Nasarawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to be cautious and guided in their utterances in the state.
APC gave the caution to the state leadership of the PDP at a press conference in Lafia addressed by the Nasararwa State party chairman, Aliyu Bello.
He accused the PDP of causing nuisance in the state by sponsoring street protesters in Lafia, the state capital.
Bello said: “It is very unfortunate that rather than await the outcome of their appeal at the Supreme Court, the PDP leadership has instead resorted to actions that are meant to overheat the polity of the state and to subsequently cause chaos.
“This is certainly the aim of the PDP, because it has realised that their appeal at the Supreme Court is a journey that will end in futility. It can be said with high degree of certainty that the appeal is dead on arrival at the apex court.”
The Nasarawa APC chairman reasoned that to every enlightened and discerning person, the judgment of the Appellate Court was comprehensive, and very unequivocal.
He explained that the Appellate Court judgement was indeed infallible based on the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended), and the extant electoral laws.
“The PDP knows this for a fact that is why they are disparaging judges of the Appeal Court. They are claiming that a mandate which was mistakenly given to them has been stolen.
“Whereas, the democratic action they should take, if the party is confident of its claim, would be to abide by the rule of law, and patiently pursue their appeal.
However, we all know that the PDP is only democratic in name,” Bello stated.
He added that while every aspect of PDP’s action was characterised by political brigandage, the PDP had so far demonstrated that by mobilising their gullible and vulnerable supporters, amongst them women whom they have tricked, to parade nakedly on the street and at PDP secretariat.
“The poor women who were recruited to engage in this shameful act, have been paid and convinced that such equally primitive action has the spiritual powers to earn the party victory at the courts.
“So far, the gods or the deities and the spirits the PDP has been invoking, have failed them, and will further fail them again, at the Supreme Court,” Bello concluded.
