Paimo Afonja, Omotosho, Others to be Honored at PERA Awards
The seventh edition of the Pacesetters Entertainment and Recognition Awards (PERA) has been scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State on Sunday, December 10th, with special recognition awards for some veteran actors in the movie industry, including Chief Lere Paimo, Adeyinka Afonja, and Remi Omotosho, among others.
In a press release, the organisers said that the special recognition awards were for the outstanding contributions of the individuals in their respective fields.
Executive Producer of PERA, Mr. Rotimi Martins, better known as Alariwo of Africa, explained: “We believe in a verse from our national anthem that says the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.”
According to him, recognising Paimo for his contributions to the movie industry in over 50 years, Eda, as he is known on stage, and a movie icon, deserved to be celebrated while alive and not when he’s gone
“Plans are already in top gear to give him an outstanding celebration, which will be exceptional and unforgettable. Baba is over 80 years of age and has brought happiness to our screens. This is our own way of showing appreciation by reciprocating his gesture.
“We also have plans to support him with cash since he’s retired. PERA awards is about celebrating indigenes and residents of Oyo State, who have made an indelible mark in their chosen careers,” he added.
He noted that other awardees, which included Afonja, the CEO of Ace Mall and supermarket, would be honoured as the Man of the Year, while Pharmacist Omotosho of the Bond Chemicals, would be honoured as Businessman of the Year.
He further listed Mrs Adesola Ige of Martha’s kitchen to be honoured with the catering amazon award; Abe Akinbobola of goldmender as advertising personality of the year and Ebun Akinwale would be honored as the Entrepreneur of the Year.
The event, which has been self-sponsored since inception, is said to be partnering with the CEO of Marikina Fun Place and wife of Ambassador Yemi Farounbi, Chief Mrs. Evelyn Omolara Farounbi, for this year’s edition.
