Prolific Nigerian filmmaker Kenneth Gyang is set to take audiences on an exhilarating cinematic journey starting on 25th December through the bustling city of Lagos with his latest creation, “This is Lagos.” An action comedy, Gyang’s latest work according to the director is his love letter, and a heartfelt ode to the city, coming four years after helming the critically acclaimed movie, Oloture.
The film features a talented ensemble cast, such as Gabriel Afolayan, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Rahama Sadau, Kate Henshaw, Enyinna Nwigwe, Sani Muazu, David Jones David, Greg Ojefua, Mike Afolarin, Jibrin Homsuk and newcomer Laura Pepple. In the new film, which is produced by Gyang’s Cinema Kpatakpata, Gabriel Afolayan plays Stevo, an artist seeking a big break in Nigeria’s music business.
He falls in love with a girl and falls in with a ragtag gang. Viewers are invited to watch how his life and dreams are then shaped by unforeseeable events in the big city. Gyang has worked on several well-received projects, including episodes of ‘Far From Home’ and ‘Blood Sisters’, both of which were released as Originals. A few years earlier, Gyang debuted with Confusion Na Wa, a 2013 feature.
He solidified his status with more acclaimed projects and has become one of the most endorsed directors currently working in Nollywood. His many commitments, according to him, became one of the reasons ‘This Is Lagos’ has been in the works for over a decade. “I read a short story many, many years ago and I immediately knew that I would love to adapt it,” he said.
“But I had to shoot other projects while waiting for the time to be right for ‘This Is Lagos’. The right time came at the start of this year.” The film is made in association with Jide Makinde’s Technical Magic and is supported by Sterling Bank.
