Bad Day for Big Boys Across Europe’s Top Leagues

*Aston Villa beat Arsenal

* Bo’mouth hammer Man Utd

* Betis deny Real Madrid top spot

* Bayern crash

Aston Villa moved to within two points of the summit of the Premier League with a narrow 1-0  win over Arsenal, who missed out on a chance to go top. It was also Arsenal’s second defeat in the Premier League this season.

Villa took the lead through skipper John McGinn, who brought Leon Bailey’s cross under control before hammering the ball into the net.

Arsenal had a late Kai Havertz late goal ruled out for handball by referee Jarred Gillett, with the video assistant referee upholding the call after a lengthy review.

Despite late Arsenal pressure, Villa held on to back up their statement victory over champions Manchester City on Wednesday and record a club record 15th straight home league victory.

At Old Trafford, Dominic Solanke’s early goal in the 3-0 defeat of Manchester United laid the foundations for Bournemouth’s first win at Old Trafford, which increases the pressure on under-fire United manager Erik ten Hag.

Second-half headers from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi in the space of five minutes completed what must go down as one of the most famous triumphs in Bournemouth’s history.

In Germany, defending champions Bayern Munich slipped to their first Bundesliga defeat of the season as they were thrashed 5-1  by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Omar Marmoush, Eric Ebimbe and Hugo Larsson put Eintracht 3-0 up after only 36 minutes at Deutsche Bank Park. Joshua Kimmich pulled one back before Ebimbe and Ansgar Knauff scored for Frankfurt.

In Spain, Jude Bellingham continued his remarkable start at Real Madrid by scoring his 16th goal in 18 games – but it was not enough to earn the La Liga leaders victory over Real Betis.

England midfielder Bellingham, 20, slotted in after controlling a delightful pass from Brahim Diaz over the Betis defence after 53 minutes.

But Aitor Ruibal hit a stunning equaliser from outside the area.

It means Girona can go top with victory at third-placed Barcelona this Sunday afternoon.
