CBN Governor Restates Commitment  to Sports Devt

 Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, yesterday  in Ilorin said that the apex bank is irrevocably committed to the development of sports activities in the country.

Dr. Cardoso added that CBN has accordingly, been in the forefront of supporting and developing sports through “our sponsorship of other events which include the CBN Tennis Open and CBN Golf tournaments.”

Cardoso  said this in Ilorin at the finals of 42nd edition of the CBN Governor’s Cup Football Competition.

Abuja Headquarters of CBN FC and Lagos FC played the final with the former emerging victorious. 

CBN Lagos FC finished as runners up while CBN Bauchi FC defeated  Ilorin FC to  win the third placed match.

Represented by Head Employee Relations and Welfare Division of the Human Resources Department of the CBN, Mrs. Brenda Daurang, Cardoso added that: “The significance of the competition, reflected in the bank’s corporate social responsibility and derived from its sponsorship of the All-financial institutions football competition, remains a testament to the bank’s contributions towards the development of sports in the country.

“The competition is aimed at encouraging social relationships between staff and maintaining a healthy workforce through sporting activities”.  

Cardoso noted that,  “The CBN team that participates in this nationwide competition is usually selected from the participating teams in the Governor’s Cup Football Competition.

“This year’s competition featured the 2nd eition of the “All Female Novelty Football Match” which took place on Saturday.

The winner of the final received a trophy, gold medals and a cash prize of 2,000,000.00, while the second and third placed teams went home with silver and bronze medals as well as 1,500,000.00 and N1,000,000.00, respectively. 

“The 4th place team receive the N500,000.00 as consolatory prize. 

Trophies were also given to the Most Disciplined Team (MDT), Highest Goal Scorer (HGS) and the Most Valuable Player (MVP).”
