Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

The League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance (LYYAG) has warned politicians who are allegedly sponsoring protests against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, to give peace a chance in the nation’s capital.

The President General of the League, Ambassador Adediwura Adesina, and the Secretary-General, Mr. Kunle Oyediran, gave the warning in a statement signed by them and made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

The group passed a vote of confidence on Wike and condemned politically motivated protests against his transformational efforts in the FCT.

Part of the statement read, “We unequivocally condemn the actions of individuals who staged a rally on December 6, 2023, as an attempt to disrupt the minister’s commendable efforts.

“We stand to commend the Minister for his exceptional and transformative leadership, dedicated to instilling order and coherence within the Federal Capital Territory.

“The League of Yoruba Youths For Advocacy and Good Governance has meticulously observed and acknowledged the minister’s numerous achievements since assuming office.

“These accomplishments range from the reconstruction of major roads and the digitisation of land administration and the actions taken against illegal structures.

“He has also improved the process for land allocations, revitalisation of the health sector, provision of water supply, and the implementation of various people-centric policies.

“In light of recent events, the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance advises the Minister to remain resolute and focused.”

The group asked the Minister to “disregard the actions of misguided individuals and counterfeit civil society organisations that orchestrated the rally.”

It also implored the minister not to entertain frivolous demands that might incite a breakdown of law and order in the FCT.

The group said: “We acknowledge the right of civil society organisations and individuals to engage in peaceful protests, the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance firmly asserts that no justifiable cause warrants efforts aimed at destabilising the hard-earned peace and progress under the minister’s leadership.

“We once again want to reiterate our steadfast support for the minister’s pursuit of order and coherence within the FCT, the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy and Good Governance issues a stern warning to any individual or group seeking to exploit civil society organisations for their selfish, unpatriotic political motives.

“We vow to take lawful measures to resist any attempt to derail President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renew Hope agenda.

“Many may have issues with the ongoing transformation in the FCT but we stand to say that the ministers working with the master plan befitting of a federal capital territory.

“Looking at other Federal Capital Territory in the world you will agree with me that FCT is a work in progress to meet up with International standards.”
