Tope Amusa: an Expert in the Field of Public Health and Biostatistics

Consistency, hard work, passion, discipline and dedication. These are terms every person aiming for success in any endeavour must be familiar with. Nothing good comes easy, they say, but with a culture of consistency and discipline fueled by passion, the reality of success becomes more possible than can be imagined.


Tope Amusa’s life and career embody the virtues of consistency, hard work, discipline and passion. This is because he has demonstrated consistency in the pursuit of excellence, through dedication and hard work which has earned him his immense success as a researcher in biostatistics and public health.


Tope Amusa obtained a Bachelor in Technology (B. Tech) in Statistics from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA)—one of the leading public institutions in Nigeria.
He went on to pursue a Master’s Degree program in Biostatistics from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University. His decision to pursue a master’s in biostatistics was inspired by his passion for applying statistical models in identifying and providing innovative solutions to public health issues. As a student at Georgia State University, he worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, contributing to professional-level instruction under faculty supervision. Additionally, he served as a Graduate Research Assistant where, while working with other leading experts; he applied statistical tools in providing innovative solutions to simulate the impact of public health interventions.


He has made several notable contributions to the field public health through his research and scholarship. He has research works published in reputable scientific journals, where he proffers expert analyses and solutions, on issues around biostatistics, epidemiology, and public health. Some of his research include; Exploring the Use of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Prostate Cancer Management, which proffers insight on the benefits of employing AI and robotics in efficient prostate cancer management; Supplementary file of the Risk of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke among individuals aged 65 years or older with COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis; this research which was presented at the American Journal of Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting and Expo 2023, and the abstract was published in the American Journal of Public Health, identifies that older patients with COVID-19 face cardiovascular health outcomes; among many others.


Tope has received several other awards and has been invited to present papers at international conferences where he shared insights with other research experts and which further demonstrates his scholarship and academic ability. He has also received grants for his research which has been funded by the government of the United States. Some of the conferences where he participated as a presenter include; the 9th International Workshop on Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, the 2023 Graduate Conference for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity, among others. To demonstrate the importance of his presentations at these conferences, he received fully-funded awards to attend and participate in these conferences.


Tope Amusa continues to contribute significantly to the field of biostatistics and public health through his research. His professional accomplishments tell a story of growth, consistency, passion, and excellence.
