AWBL: Nigeria Customs sees of Cameroon Univerte de Douala 57-46
Nigeria Customs basketball club opened her Africa Women Basketball League account on a positive note Monday afternoon with a 57-46 points victory over Universite de Douala in a Group A match-up in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Abdulrahman Mohamed-coached side won the first and second quarters (12-11, 20-8) to take a 13-point lead into the halftime break.
The Cameroonian fought back in the third quarter as they tried every means to checkmate the Nigerian side but such efforts could yield just a points reduction in the lead 18-16 as both sides settled for 9 points apiece in the final quarter.
Team captain and 2023 Afrobasket winner with D’Tigeress, Nkem Akaraiwe showed up once again for her side as she posted a double-double of 20 points and 19 rebounds she also recorded 4 assists, 4 steals, and three blocks to finish with an efficiency rating of 32, Olaoluwatomi Taiwo contributed 14 points and 4 rebounds for the well-deserved victory.
Customs showed a better understanding of the board as they outbound them by 62-42 and 19-7 assists.
The Nigerian side will face off against Kenya Port Authority tomorrow.
