Report: 1,308 Killed, 464 Abducted in 264 LGs in November

A security firm, Beacon Consulting, has released statistics of violence recorded in the country for the month of November which shows that 1,308 people died in violent incidents across the country in the month under review.

It said 464 people were abducted in 264 local councils in the country in the same month.

The report said the firm tracked 721 incidents that resulted in 464 abductions and 1,308 fatalities.

“In the 11 month of the year, we recorded 721 incidents that resulted in 464 abductions and 1,308 fatalities.

“These affected 264 local government areas in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” it said.

Going by its month-to-month analysis of the changes recorded in October and November 2023, the report showed that 935 incidents were recorded in October as against 721 in November representing a 22.88 per cent decrease.

Beacon Consulting, which tracks violent crimes across the country in the report titled, “2023 Nigeria Security Report,” said fatalities increased and stood at 1,308 as against October figures that was 1,127 representing 16.06 increase.

There was a decline in November as figures stood at 464 compared to 518 in October representing 10.42 per cent decrease.

It also presented statistics that covered the six geo-political zones.

“A breakdown shows 63.83 per cent of fatalities occurred in the North-east geopolitical region or 835 deaths, while 13.53 per cent occurred in the North-west geopolitical region amounting to 177 fatalities, even as it recorded 13.45 per cent in North-central or 176 fatalities.

“South-west zone recorded 51 deaths or 3.89 per cent while  South-south region recorded 35 fatalities or 2.67 per cent and South-east 2.59 per cent or 34 fatalities”, it said.

It added: “90.76 per cent of the deaths recorded in November 2023 affected the northern part  of Nigeria. A further breakdown of these figures shows these states recorded the highest fatalities: Borno, 541; Taraba, 135; Yobe, 102; Katsina, 54 and Bauchi 53.”

“Borno State recorded the highest number of fatalities in the North-east region with 541 persons killed, Katsina State recorded the highest number of fatalities in the North-west region with 54 persons killed and Niger State recorded the highest number of fatalities in the North-central region with 44 persons killed in the period under review”.

The firm asserted that in the southern part of the country, Rivers State recorded the

highest number of fatalities in the South-south region with 17 persons killed, Anambra State recorded the highest number of fatalities in the South-east region with 17 persons killed and Ogun State recorded the highest number of fatalities in the South-west region with 25 persons killed during the monitored period.
