Edo Public Service Academy Trains 7,040 Private, Public Workers

The John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), has trained 7,040 personnel since its inception.

The JOOPSA, which was set up by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, was established in March this year and officially launched August 12, 2023, in honour of the first civilian governor of the state, Mr. John Odigie-Oyegun’ on his birthday.

Speaking at the “Open House” ceremony for journalists and social media influencers in Benin City, Edo State, the Director General of JOOPSA, Mrs. Precious Precious Imuwahen Ajoonu, emphasised the academy’s transformative impact on civil and public service training, with a view to ushering in a new era of excellence under Governor Obaseki’s visionary leadership.

Ajoonu also said that the Open House event offered firsthand insights into JOOPSA organisational dynamics and milestones with advanced facility, highlighting its commitment to a conducive learning environment.

According to her, “since the establishment of JOOPSA in March 2023 and official launch in on August 12 this years, it has rapidly become a knowledge and skills hub for public servants.

“To date, the academy has successfully trained 7040 participants, aligning with its mission to shape a skilled and innovative public service workforce.”

The director general further explained the academy’s strategic partnerships with industry experts, which included collaborations with institutions like Nexford University, the Project Management Institute of Nigeria, and Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI), adding that JOOPSA offered a diverse programme portfolio covering vital topics such as Managing the Retirement Disruption, Negotiation and Collaboration for Leaders, and Public Policy Evaluation and Interpretation.

Ajoonu therefore, reiterated JOOPSA’s commitment to continuous professional skills enhancement through innovative training programmes and expanded collaborations with industry leaders, ensuring ongoing relevance and excellence in public service delivery.
