Navy Town Old Boys/Girls Association Holds First Reunion, Awards Ceremony
In a first-of-its-kind ceremony, Straight Outta Navy Town, the umbrella union of Navy Town Old Boys and Girls will tomorrow December 16, 2023, converge at Navy Town to honour some of its members who have excelled in their careers in both the Military and private sector.
The reunion events will kick off with a novelty football match powered by Nestlé Nigeria at the Navy Town Ultra-Modern Sports Complex while the awards ceremony will hold at the Aviators Mess, Naval Airbase, Navy Town same day.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Chairman of the reunion planning committee Phranklin Audu, said it was a way of celebrating the life path and the accomplishment of our friends and brothers who have made a mark in industry and military careers over the years.
Suffice it to mention that out of many of us who grew up in Navy Town, have emerged Major Generals, Rear Admirals and several C-suite Executives. Navy Town has also produced very successful entertainers making their mark in Nollywood including Mercy Johnson, Nosa Rex, Cecilia Bisong (former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria) and Judith Audu who is the producer of Netflix Nigeria’s first original series, Blood Sisters and several other blockbusters like Shanty Town.
Gabriel Okolosi who played for the Super Eagles and Dr. Monisola Ademoluti (Former Miss Tourism) are some of the other notable names from Navytown.
In his remark, the General Coordinator and co-Founder of the association, Mr. Ayodeji Ogunyemi, said the reunion was an opportunity to rekindle old friendships and relationships while honouring all of those who have paved the path ahead of us. He said the Award of Recognition to its deserving members, was to spur the younger ones to pursue a path of excellence as the union generally provides a platform for mentorship for the youth within the barracks.
Through the association, we will interface better with the barracks leadership as critical stakeholders in exploring avenues for collaboration towards the development of Navy Town and improving the welfare of its residents, Ogunyemi further said.
Established in 2016, Straight Outta Navy Town was set up as a vehicle for the promotion of conviviality, networking and promotion of collective shared values among former residents of Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos.
