Oborevwori Tasks  LGAs on More Impactful Projects

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged local government authorities in the state to brace up the challenge of embarking on programmes and projects that would enable them address the needs of the people of their respective localities.

Oborevwori, who gave the charge in Asaba at the a ceremony to empower 250 persons by the Oshimili South Local Government Area, said the time has come for people to feel the impact of local government administration through relevant infrastructure and other projects that complemented those of the state government.

The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Johnson Erijo, noted that “the impact of government could only be reasonably felt when as many persons as possible are taken out of the poverty bracket.”

The state government required “the complementary roles of the local government councils in making life more meaningful to all Deltans,” commending the Chairman of Oshimili South LGA, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili, for his giant strides in infrastructural and human capital development.

He noted that having keenly followed the activities and performance of Ezenyili, he had no doubt that he has sufficiently met the expectations of his people, which is the real essence of governance.

The governor, however, urged the people of Oshimili South to continue to support the state government and the council for greater delivery of what he called “dividends of democracy.”

Earlier in a welcome address, Ezenyili noted that “the empowerment programme is aimed at complementing the efforts of the Oborevwori administration at reducing poverty, especially in view of the prevailing hard times in the country.

“Each of the 250 beneficiaries, who were painstakingly selected from across the wards to ensure that those who had benefitted in the past were not listed, would receive a cash gift of N100, 000 to support their businesses and improve their socio-economic life.”

The council chairman, who also distributed 220 bags of rice to the federal wards in the area, said it was his modest contribution towards cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the people in this festive period.

Some political leaders in the area present at the event included the PDP leader in Oshimili South and former state Chairman of the party, Chief Edwin Uzor; Chairman, PDP, Delta North, Elder Moses Iduh, and the Oshimili South PDP Chairman, Mr Dada Okonji.
