Alaafinate: Government not Responsible for Delay, Kingmakers Are, Says Famurewa
Fadekemi Ajakaiye
The responsibility of the government is to maintain law and order, Samson Famurewa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said about the issues surrounding the installation of a new Alafin of Oyo.
Famurewa said, “The abusive comments from Oyo Town in every angle are becoming frequent. From the ruling houses to the indigenous people and religious groups.
“If the government is diplomatic and patient about the issues, it doesn’t mean negligence. Do not blame the government, put all the blame on your kingmakers.
“The Oyo State Government has no hands in who becomes the next Alaafin. All they are after is due process. Governor Makinde’s statement at Iseyin during the presentation of staff of office to the newly crowned Aseyin of Iseyin wasn’t just a statement, but a fact. A dedicated Governor like Makinde won’t say, if he didn’t see. If you ask the average Oyo man what’s causing the delay of a new Alaafin’s appointment, they won’t think twice before telling you what the issue is.
“No responsible government will fold its arms and allow people to cause chaos in a peaceful environment, and that’s what Governor Makinde is doing. He (Gov Makinde) might not say anything because he’s not a parrot that talks a lot. But believe me, he is aware of everything.
“The kingmakers have been severally warned to go and follow due process, and they refused to do so.
He said, “Oyo people should stop throwing jabs at the government. They have no hands in the selection of new alaafin. Hold your kingmakers responsible for the delay.”
