Foundation Gives Out Free Medical Checks/Treatment to Bayelsa Residents

Over 500 persons has so far received the free treatment as part of the yearly medical outreach organised by the Professor Seyiefa Brisibe Foundation in collaboration with the family care hospital.

Yesterday outreach saw a large turnout of residents of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State to receive the free medical checkup and treatment at the Family Care Hospital (FCH), Yenagoa.  

The medical outreach, which entered its sixth year, according to the Medical Director of FCH, Professor Brisibe, was to give back to the society, mark the 5th year anniversary of the hospital and commemorate his birthday. 

Speaking at the event, Professor Brisibe appreciated family, friends and colleagues for the accolades and support.

He noted that he is inspired to save lives, because of the motivation from his parents.

He advised beneficiaries to take advantage of the free medical service to know their health status by checking to know if the situation need prompt diagnosis and treatment to reduce mortality rate in Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.

Also speaking, Dr. Beimonyo Brisibe and the Manager of FCH, Ms. Beauty Eyo, described Professor Brisibe as philanthropist who derived pleasure in impacting lives through his medical outreach within and outside Bayelsa State.

The Paramount Ruler of Opolo Community, Mr. Gabriel Ekezie, and his counterpart from Biogbolo Community, Mr. Frank Amos, thanked Professor Brisibe and his team for his gesture to bring succour to the host communities of FCH. 

Consultant at FCH, Dr. Tarila Aweipekumo, enumerated various healthcare services that were delivered in the outreach and scope of the event.

Aweipekumo emphasised that the free healthcare service is pertinent to give back to the society.

Some beneficiaries, who spoke to our correspondents, including Elder Peggy Dorgu,, Michael Makpa and the Youth President of Opolo, Mr. Collins Grey, applauded the outreach team and management of the hospital for touching lives within the host communities.

One of the volunteers, Pharmacist Irene Dawa, described Prof. Brisibe as a father who encouraged health workers to volunteer their time in giving back to the society.

Dawa said: “I worked with Professor Brisibe and I know he is someone who encourages us to volunteer and I know volunteering in this season of Christmas is a way of giving back. So it is my own little way of giving back to the community by my service to humanity.

“I feel very good, especially when I am attending to someone who I know cannot afford the drug. And when we are done, they would say God bless you. That is so fulfilling.

“I will encourage others to also come onboard. Help encourage him by contributing to fund the drugs and other parts of the program here.”

Professor Brisibe, who is very passionate about giving free medical care and social support to indigent and most vulnerable people in society, especially, Bayelsa State, launched the first edition of the outreach five years ago.

The outreach has taken the free medical services which include check, free treatment for ailment including free surgery for those who require such to over 12 communities since inception.
