I do my best despite the odds – Anwuli Mordi-Anenih

Anwuli Mordi-Anenih, the accomplished Creative Director of QAMIN, a renowned fashion accessories brand based in Lagos, shares her inspirational journey of resilience and determination in the face of challenges, highlighting her commitment to excellence despite Nigeria’s human resource constraints.

QAMIN, pronounced ‘ka-miin,’ has gained prominence under Mordi-Anenih’s leadership, with her unwavering work ethic serving as a beacon of inspiration. In a recent statement, she emphasized her dedication to giving her best despite the odds, including addressing the fundamental human resource challenges prevalent in Nigeria.

Reflecting on her multifaceted role, Mordi-Anenih expressed the difficulties she encountered, stating, “It’s hard! We have a significant human resource challenge in Nigeria, and when you set a high personal benchmark, dealing with support staff can become very challenging. I’ve consistently strived to do my best despite the odds, and it seems to have paid off. ‘Let go and let God’ became my mantra at some points because it got tough. Nowadays, I’m focusing on applying more strategic planning to both my personal life and business, combining foundational hard work with current activities to help things fall into place.”

Taking a trip down memory lane, Anwuli Mordi-Anenih, who formally trained as a shoemaker in London in 2003 after earning a Business Administration degree from the University of Kent, shared her creative journey. “I have always been a creative. I enjoyed drawing and visiting museums at a young age, as well as styling my clothing. By the time I finished my first degree, I explored various career paths, from sales to merchandising and production. The career path has been a bit wiggly, but the love for fashion has always been a constant.”

Offering advice on female empowerment, Mordi-Anenih suggested, “Try to start planning your personal and business lives as early as possible. However, if you feel that a lot of water has already gone under the bridge, no worries, start planning today. It’s never too late to have a plan.”

QAMIN, under Mordi-Anenih’s creative guidance, specializes in thoughtfully designed aso oke, leather, and fabric fashion accessories, including handbags, pouches, key-rings, footwear, and belts.
