Winners Emerge at 9th Oba Elegushi Tennis Championship
The Oba Elegushi Tennis Tournament has been concluded with the top teams rewarded with mouth-watering prizes at the ninth edition.
Team D defeated Team B in the keenly contested final that when to the wire. The champions claimed the top prize at the 2023 edition after winning two singles and one doubles match.
The annual competition for members of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan was bankrolled by Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla the third, in line with the monarch’s commitment to the development of the sport and encouraging participants to keep fit.
The weeklong event had over 30 male and female players, pulled into teams, competing for honors at the revered tournament and the grand finale held at the Lord Rumes centre court was witnessed by the sponsor, the Elegushi of Ikateland.
The well-attended event also had politicians, Government functionaries, business moguls, community leaders, and executives of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club as well as members present at the finals.
The tennis tournament which is one of the events on the calendar of the premier club was not only competitive but also promoted healthy rivalry among members.
With the tournament attaining a landmark next year, the monarch promised to elevate the standard at the 10th edition, to be an international affair with more foreign players competing in 2024.
At the closing ceremony, the champions and losing finalists were presented with trophies while all players received medals for their participation at this year’s competition.
