The Olympus Marino Deck of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), Pyrates Confraternity in Rivers State, has urged the security agencies to redouble their efforts in ensuring the safety of lives during the festive period in the ºstate.

The Capoon of the Olympus Marino Deck, Mr. Kennedy Barango, made this call yesterday while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt.

Barango also urged Nigerians, especially those embarking on road trips during the yuletide, to prioritise their safety.

The group “implores travellers to remain vigilant, adhere to proper safety signs, and refrain from drinking and driving. Vehicle owners and commercial vehicle operators are also enjoined to ensure that their vehicles are in proper roadworthy condition before embarking on any journey.

“Security agencies are hereby charged to double their efforts at securing the lives and properties of the citizenry during this period. We encourage individuals and families to celebrate responsibly, keeping in mind their well-being and that of others.”

Meanwhile, social group has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for the decision of granting a ₦100,000 Christmas bonus to all state civil servants, irrespective of their levels in the service.

Barango said that the gesture is a testament to Fubara’s led government promise to closely look into the yearnings of its civil servants and provide much-needed relief amidst the prevailing economic challenges faced by citizens of the country.

He said: “While we commend this empathetic gesture of His Excellency at the active civil service level, we call upon him to extend a similar gesture of compassion to pensioners.

“These individuals, who have dedicated their lives in service to the nation, deserve to be acknowledged and supported, especially in these very austere times.”

The group also urged local government chairmen within the state to emulate Governor Fubara’s gesture by extending similar bonuses to their employees.

“This collective effort will undoubtedly contribute to alleviating the economic burden on workers and foster a sense of solidarity within the civil service,” it said.
