Revs and Runway 4th edition comes with new specs
Professional car drifters across Nigeria gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos State for the 4th edition of the Revs and Runway on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
Revs and Runway is an automotive, fashion, and lifestyle event with several activities taking place simultaneously, including supercar and power bike revving, drifting, and racing, and a fashion showcase amongst other attractions.
Speaking at this year’s edition, one of the founders, Winfrey Agbelese, said the event tries to fashion and motorsports because “we know the motorsports pulls guys and the fashion pulls the ladies.”
Describing Revs and Runway as a beautiful blend of high fashion and fast cars, Agbelese said the mix gives a holistic feel and a nice combination of both worlds.
Agbelese stressed that the event has improved with the addition of new activities.
“The number of cars, the stunt activities, the fashion activities, and vendor stands are some of the new things we added to this year’s edition. Another we added is Tug of War, where two cars pull each other,” the convener said.
She noted that the event gives room for amazing Nigerian designers to showcase their beautiful pieces to be opened to the global market.
Quoting her, “We know that in Nigeria, Lagos especially fashion is wide now, we have fashion shows at the end of every year from different designers.
“Different fashion shows, and even the World Fashion big business. And interestingly, motorsports is also a very big business but not in Nigeria.”
According to Agbelese, it is one of the biggest things in the world. If we go to different countries, we have so many motorsports activities.
“However, there is that huge vacuum here in Nigeria that needs to be explored. And the reason we’re also doing this is because we love cars, and I just love cars. Lagos traffic alone will tell you that we love cars. You can see only one person in a big car here in Lagos, it shows how much we love cars.
“We need to get Nigerians to the point where they know that their cars can do different things.
“It’s also a form of lifestyle and excitement, but then, all has to be within safety and confined. Motorsports and fashion because these are very two huge industries and one needs to pull the other.”
Agbelese also pointed out efforts by key stakeholders in the Nigerian fashion world to pull motorsports using fashion and designs.
On safety, she said that professional mechanics were contacted to access all vital parts of the vehicles used for drifting while adding that there is a standby medical team ready to attend to any emergency.
