Barack Obama has shared the annual list of his favorite songs for the 2023, with Nigerian superstar artistes Davido, Asake, and Tems among the picks. Asake’s ‘Amapiano’ featuring Olamide, Davido’’s ‘Unavailable’, and Tems ‘Me & U’ were among the songs featured on the list.
Also featured on the former president’s 28-song selection were Burna Boy and 21 Savage (Sittin’ on Top of The World). Songs by Nigerian superstars like Burna Boy, Davido, Tems and Wizkid made the 44th president of the United States of America 2020 Summer Playlist. The annual musical compilation is a routine which has become part of Obama’s culture and social fun time memories since his time in the White House.
“Here are some of my favorite songs from this year,” Obama wrote on social media. “Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out.” The annual list comes on the heels of Obama’s yearly book and movie favorites, which the ex-POTUS shared earlier this week.
In the 2023 songs, highlights of the playlist included “TQG” by Karol G and Shakira, “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan feat. Kacey Musgraves, “Sprinter” by Dave and Central Cee and “America Has a Problem” by Beyoncé featuring Kendrick Lamar.
African acts who have previously made Obama’s favourite songs include Rema, all-female supergroup Les Amazones d’Afrique with their song ‘La Dame et Ses Valises’ Nigerian Jidenna with ‘Classic Man’ in 2018.
