Yoruba Youths Laud Abass, Bichi Over Quick Passage of 2024 Budget
* Say House has shown patriotism
One of the foremost support groups of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-west, the Yoruba Progressive Youths (YPY), has joined other Nigerians in commending the 10th House of Representatives for the swift passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill.
The President of the group, Chief Koala Salau, in a statement Sunday, described the Hon. Tajudeen Abbas-led House as “most proactive and patriotic”.
Salau specifically acknowledged “the dexterity with which the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Bichi, conducted the budget scrutiny and how he advanced the interest of the general public far above his personal interest”.
He said: “Worthy of commendation is a man that many Nigerians didn’t believe would deliver on mandate. The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Bichi, is the man of the year. He dazzled the naysayers and came out clean and beat the record as the first Chairman of Committee who delivered on Appropriation Bill within one month.
“We watched with disbelief, how Hon. Bichi coordinated his colleagues, especially committee chairmen to beat the time frame of January-December budget circle, even when he had no much time in his disposal.
“We are happy that Bichi and his committee didn’t disappoint us. The Yoruba Progressive Youths celebrates his sincerity. We celebrate his doggedness; we celebrate his patriotism and determination to contribute to the attainment of the renewed hope mantra of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The group also pledged total loyalty and support to the leadership of the 10th House, for providing the enabling environment for the smooth legislative activities on the 2024 Appropriation Bill, saying: “It is now confirmed that the legislature is not working to sabotage the good intentions of our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
While appreciating all members of the National Assembly for rising to the occasion of patriotism by denying themselves sleep and comfort, in making sure Nigeria gets it right, the group also called on President Tinubu to quickly attend to the budget in order to ameliorate the many inherited sufferings faced by Nigerians.
President Tinubu had on November 29, 2023, presented the 2024 Appropriation estimates of N27.5 trillion to the joint session of the National Assembly.
The lawmakers subsequently adjourned sittings for three weeks, to enable them interface with various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government for budget scrutiny.
The House also called off the Christmas vacation on Saturday, December 30, 2023, to pass the 2024 budget with an increase in capital component by N1.27 trillion.
