Aso-Oke is a traditional garment that has a pride of place in Yoruba history and fashion. It is as timeless as the history of the people. According to the founder of a leading clothing brand Bolamsasooke, Olamide Latifat Mohammed who spoke to Thisdaylive at a wedding ceremony recently, the fabric is not only about fashion but symbolises identity, culture and history of the Yoruba people.

Mohammed, who was the chief Aso-Oke vendor at the wedding ceremony where Thisdaylive chatted with her said the significance of Aso-Oke at Yoruba ceremonies cannot be overemphasised as it is rooted in the artistry and craftsmanship of the people.
