Fire Razes Sobi Specialist Hospital COVID-19 Centre in Ilorin

Fire outbreak has razed the Sobi Specialist Hospital COVID-19 Centre in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The centre was established during the period of COVID-19 pandemic in the state, to cater for the medical treatment of those who might have been infected by the disease.
The centre was located at the premises of the Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, so as to serve as annex to the centre
The COVID-19 centre was equipped with a lot of modern medical equipment in order to take care of the infected people in the state.
However, THISDAY checks revealed that the COVID-19 centre was reportedly gutted by fire around 8.35.a.m last Tuesday.
It was learnt that the incident was allegedly caused by an unidentified person that had set an undergrowth on fire, which then spread to the COVID-19 Centre ward.
When contacted, the state Director of Fire Service, Mr. Falade John Olumuyiwa, who confirmed the incident, stated that the swift response of the men of the fire service prevented major damage at the Sobi Specialist Hospital (COVID-19 Centre.
He said: “On January 2 at 08:47 p.m., the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a fire incident at Sobi Specialist Hospital (COVID-19 Centre) at Alagbado, Ilorin.
“Upon arrival, the firemen found one of the six wards ablaze and immediately began firefighting efforts to contain and extinguish the flames, showcasing their expertise to prevent extensive damage.
“Investigation revealed that an unidentified person had set an undergrowth on fire, which then spread to the COVID-19 Centre ward. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were recorded.”
Olumuyiwa, however, urged the residents of the state to be more careful in their day-to-day activities, adding that they should desist from sending under-age children to fetch water in domestic well.
