Emmanuel Ugwu-Nwogo in Umuahia
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has assured the people of Abia in the diaspora he would not deviate from implementing the agenda for a holistic development of the state.
He gave the assurance at a maiden interactive meeting of the Otti-led administration with an enlarged Abians in diaspora at government house Umuahia.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Otti said that his government was leaving no stone unturned in the quest for accelerated economic growth of Abia.
He stated that his government would deploy technology to drive development in Abia, adding that on assumption of office he did not waste time in facing the challenges confronting the state.
He noted that it was his zeal to get things going for Abia that his administration declared a state of emergency on critical sectors including health, education, security, infrastructure and waste management.
Otti said that his first steps were already yielding visible results hence the ugly narrative has given way and Abia of today has become a reference point in good governance.
“Having been around for seven months ,the records, the facts, the data are all available for everyone to see. “Today, Abia State is no longer seen as that God forsaken state but Abia State has become a reference point in the area of excellence,” he said.
To substantiate his claims, the governor cited the recent National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report which ranked Abia third in attracting direct foreign investments behind the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos State.
“You should now know that within seven months glorious things have already been spoken concerning Abia, because God is set to do a new thing in Abia.”
According to him, the government was doing everything within its powers to make the state a safe haven, conducive for investors, adding that the right time has come for investors to put their money in Abia.
He described his administration as one “that is very passionate about attracting the best hands and the best brains everywhere”, adding that the meeting was an opportunity
to harvest ideas needed to move the steate forward.
The meeting featured presentations by no fewer than five commissioners, questions and answers as well as contributions from among the group of diaspora Abians.
Those that spoke commended Governor Otti for the achievements he has recorded so far
and expressed their willingness to partner his government in various sectors of the economy, including capacity building, healthcare, sports development.
However, they urged the Abia chief executive to harmonise and consolidate relationships with the diasporans through the Diaspora Commission.
