The Young Women in Nigerian Politics, a collective voice for women’s empowerment and social development, has extended a heartfelt appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the redeployment of Ms. Delu Yabuku as the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

The President/Convener of the group, Rejoice Salome Ishaku, appealed yesterday in a statement.

She said Yakubu’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian activities and her proven capacity to drive impactful change makes her an ideal candidate to lead NSIPA into a new era of social investment and welfare programmes.

“In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis particularly in the northern part of the country, which has been the epicenter of various challenges, we believe it is crucial to have a leader who not only understands the complexities of the issue but is deeply committed to addressing the needs of the people. In this regard, we wholeheartedly endorse Ms. Delu Yakubu for the role of National Coordinator of NSIPA,” Ishaku said.

She said that Yakubu, being an indigene of the North-east, would bring a unique perspective and a profound understanding of the multifaceted issues faced by the people.

The group expressed a strong belief that under Ms. Yakubu’s leadership, noting that NSIPA will witness significant strides in delivering social interventions that directly benefit the most vulnerable members of the society.

It added that her dedication to creating avenues for women’s empowerment, youth development, and poverty alleviation aligns seamlessly with the goals of the agency.

The group added that Yakubu has demonstrated a strategic vision for social investment in different capacities, emphasising inclusivity and targeted interventions to uplift the most vulnerable populations

“We are aware that Ms. Yakubu was the first candidate nominated by Mr. President to lead the Agency. She was screened by the National Assembly and even assumed the office but for some inexplicable reasons, she was instead appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. We are thankful to Mr. President for considering her as his SSA and we firmly believe that if he elevates her to head the NSIPA, she will add immense value to his administration.

“Her track record showcases her ability to effectively manage and implement large-scale social investment programmes, which will make her a huge asset to the agency and Nigeria in general,” the statement said.

The women’s group said as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Yakubu has been instrumental in organising empowerment programmes specifically tailored for the physically challenged, the poor, and the vulnerable in Adamawa, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Sokoto states.
