Delta Guber: Again, Gbagi Losses to Oborevwori at Supreme Court

Just like the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the appeal by Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) against the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.

A five-member panel of the apex court dismissed the appeal for being incompetent and lacking in merit.

Justice Garba Mohammed, who delivered the lead judgment, held that the appellants failed to provide cogent reason to deviate from the decisions of the two lower courts.

While Oborevwori scored 360,234 votes to win the governorship election, Gbagi scored 4,639 votes to come fifth in the March 18 governorship election in Delta State.

Not satisfied by the outcome of the election, Gbagi and the SDP, citing non-qualification, sought the sack of Oborevwori as governor.

But the tribunal and Court of Appeal in their separate judgments dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit, a decision which has just been affirmed by the apex court.
